Paul's Boutique 20th Anniversary Edition
It was 20 years ago that the legendary Paul’s Boutique LP came out. I remember I was in 8th grade and at that point was done with the Beasties. I had moved on to Hendrix, The Who, Led Zep and the Rolling Stones. It wasn’t until college, when I discovered Hip-Hop. I was all about Tribe Called Quest, De La Soul and The Roots. I went back and re-discovered Paul’s Boutique and realized this record was the Pet Sounds of Hip Hop. 3 MC’s, One DJ and One producer sampled music from the Beatles, Led Zep and hundreds of others to create this masterpiece.
The main problem with this record for years has been the sound. It was mastered only in 1989 and sounded like crap – Thanks to the Beasties and Capitol Records, Paul’s Boutique now sounds better than ever.
